I've always loved how these look, they're just so classy and timeless. And you could get it with a 7.3l V12...

My boss has a non-silver arrow SL600 that's an absolute dream to drive. Down the street from where I work, there used to be a Silver Arrow parked in front of a house. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it got put away for the winter, or if it was sold. I have not seen it in a number of weeks.

1450 SL500 Silver Arrows, 100 SL600 Silver Arrows. Given how well the 600 drives, I'd have to get one of those 100.

Wow, didn't realize they still made that body style in 2002.

They had a subtle, but modern refresh with the fenders, bumpers, etc. in the late 90s. It reminds me a lot of the late-model Z31 300ZX, going from blocky 80s style to sleek 2000s style.

I do like these, too bad they are so...not performance oriented. But they are extremely classy cars...and quite adequate for many things.

Final year. I still remember when it was up...it was weird because they started making them right before I was born (that should give away my age)...it was the only SL I ever knew.

The SL600's are two inches wider and two inches longer than the SL500s. On a car, it seems insignificant, but once you're used to it, you'll be able to tell the difference right away. The 600's sit differently and have slightly different angles that I think look much better.

Not performance oriented? Dude, these cars are disgusting animals. That V12 creeps on you, and will rip your face off.

The Silver Arrow was a V12, and all of the other V12 models are wild animals. I drive an SL600 AMG fairly often, and trust me, even the non AMG models are plenty powerful. If you were going with just two people, the trunk has plenty of space for a 4 day weekend away, no need to pack anything up front with you. I've done it a few times, and it's a dream. I know that they're not track monsters, but they have plenty of performance to match the class.

Lol I meant more in the twisties. The V12 is certainly capable of decent thrust. Don't get me wrong I like them very much. But even a previous-gen SL550 would embarrass one in a straight line and around a track, and I recognize that. Doesn't make me like them less though.

I have a 2001 SL500. Best car I've ever driven. 'Nuff said.

I think that with a good set of rubber, the car can hold it's own. Considering it's 16 years old now, the R129s are as capable as a 16 year old car can be. I wouldn't really compare the R129s to any other series, because they're in a class of their own.

Oh for sure. For their age, they are very capable cars. I still think of those few Sopranos episodes when Tony is at the Mercedes dealer and they have one of these in the showroom.

The SL600 is a beast. It's an absolutely wonderful drive. Even my ladyfriend loves it.

At least MB's V12 made some power compared to the two I6's slapped together that BMW called a V12.

That's exactly what the Benz V12 is. The two halfs of the engine might as well be separate parts. The electronics are not the strong suit, but if you consider each half of the engine has a column, if any fuel injector goes bad, that whole column will stop working. Hardly what I would call a great system, but it's a pair of I6's mashed together, how good will it honestly be? The MB one is very torquey. I wouldn't ever consider them high HP cars, even the SL73/74 have high numbers, but for a V12, you'd expect a little more from them. The SL600 is supposedly rated between 384 and 396ish horsepower. I've driven the 600 enough to know that it's most definitely a very conservative number. It's no record holder, but the car is just over 5000lbs with me sitting in it, and it gets up and goes like it's much lighter than that. The numbers are most definitely low.

The M1 is one of the few BMWs that I would really love to drive at least once, but I can agree that I'm disappointed by the power of them. If you were to compare it directly on power/delivery alone to the MB, you'd almost be left wondering why they bothered. I'm not really up on the newer cars, but are the new V12s from BMW any better? They're most certainly much harder to find, but is that because of a lack of performance, or just the pricing?
